Hash Generator
Generate a cryptographic hash of any text using SHA-1, SHA-256, or SHA-512. Useful for verifying file integrity, generating checksums, or working with APIs that require hashed values. Computed via your browser's native Web Crypto API — your input is never transmitted anywhere.
What a hash is used for
A cryptographic hash turns any input into a fixed-length fingerprint — the same input always produces the same hash, and changing even one character produces a completely different one. Commonly used to verify a file wasn't corrupted or tampered with, or to store a non-reversible representation of a value.
Common questions
Which algorithm should I use?
SHA-256 is the most common general-purpose choice today. SHA-1 is considered weak for security purposes (but still used for non-security checksums). SHA-512 offers a larger output for applications wanting extra margin.
